How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

Shockwave therapy is an advanced, non-invasive, non-surgical treatment modality that accelerates the body’s natural healing abilities. Its effects include enhancing local blood circulation, increasing cellular metabolism and supporting the repair and regeneration of damaged or injured tissues.

Shockwave therapy works by using high energy sound/pressure waves and transmitting the energy into the target tissue, triggering the desired biological responses.  Shockwave therapy is extremely effective in dealing with conditions or injuries where the body struggles to heal independently such as plantar fasciitis.

What Does a Therapy Session with Shockwave Therapy Feel like?

Your Experience with our Burlington Chiropractor

After our initial assessment where we determine that shockwave therapy will be a beneficial part of your treatment plan, a typical appointment will last between 20-30 minutes.  During the appointment we will perform a combination of manual therapy/soft tissue release technique, joint mobilizations or manipulations as needed, perform and go over specific exercises, and perform shockwave therapy.

Shockwave therapy can at times be uncomfortable or painful while it is being performed; however, treatment is always done to patient tolerance.  The application of shockwave only takes 5-10 minutes depending on the area of the body being worked on.

After the session, there may be some local soreness however most people experience a reduction in their pain fairly quickly. If you are looking for quick and effective results, book an assessment today!
